Just a short post, for now - Check-out the newly-improved Magnetic Lightning Detector from The TechLib site.
It's really cool and unique; I've been told it's very sensitive to distant lightning discharges, but it's not easy to trigger it using the usual methods (Piezo-based lighters, etc.).
My first attempts to get it to trigger have been unsuccessful so far, but the challenge is fun! I've also been trying with a speaker, from RadioShack SW radio (as was recommended).
