The Lightning Detector Kit From Eastern Voltage Research Is Here!

Yay! It's Finally Arrived!

Just a few quick Pics - I wanted to show what a lovely, Professionally-made circuit board you get with this kit:

Among other things, you get a nice big schematic with it

And this adorable little mascot to keep you company while you solder!

"Ahh...Is this not happiness?"

Soon, I'll be settling down to slowly & carefully begin assembly. I have enough soldering experience, to where I could do it very quickly - But that's never the way to go about it.
Plus, building electronic kits is very enjoyable, and should be done slowly.

More to follow...

One (of several) Projects I'm Currently Working On

One of the current projects I've had my sights on; now in progress... Circuit from Charles Wenzel, PCB designed by Lennie Zink.
Building the Atmospheric Charge Monitor. PCB layout designed by Lennie Zink.

I needed to order:

  • IC TL071 - eBay
  • LM3914 - All Electronics
Both chips are here now...

And this is my current progress:

Will be adding more info & Pics to this post soon!

Finally Ordered This Lightning Detector Kit! From Eastern Voltage Research

Well, I'm very happy to report that I've been pretty busy with bat detector reviews lately. That's a great thing!

But, I'm also very happy to report that:
  • I've been busy tinkering around with lightning detector designs (Charles Wenzel).
  • And PCB layout designs (by Lennie Zink)
  • And...I just ordered one of these lightning detector kits!
I've been wanting one of these for years now, just never got around to it...Kept putting it on my wish lists, etc. But, this year, I got it as a birthday present to myself :)
I'll be posting a mini-review of it; and my build progress here.

New Lightning Detector Design From The TechLib Site!

Just a short post, for now - Check-out the newly-improved Magnetic Lightning Detector from The TechLib site.
It's really cool and unique; I've been told it's very sensitive to distant lightning discharges, but it's not easy to trigger it using the usual methods (Piezo-based lighters, etc.).
My first attempts to get it to trigger have been unsuccessful so far, but the challenge is fun! I've also been trying with a speaker, from RadioShack SW radio (as was recommended).

Here is my unit, from Mr. Charles Wenzel:

This is some seriously fun stuff!!
Lightning storm season isn't far off!
